Throughout the year the club holds plenty of extra events to which all students are invited. There are at least 2 competitions run each year and every summer there is also camp! We also hold regular special training seminars which target certain aspects of Karate like competition training, specialised self defence, Kata training (forms) and Kumite training (sparring). Often we are lucky enough to organise a guest instructor to come in and teach some specialist subjects like knife defence. We even have a few social events throughout the year like a Halloween party, Karate in the park, BBQ’s and fun days out! Of course, the whole family is welcome.

KATA is such an important part of your Karate. It takes all those basic moves that you have learned in class and puts them together in a pattern that impresses all that see them. But getting your Kata correct in all ways is very difficult. Hand positions, feet positions, movement, directions, turning of heads, some of the many things that need to be correct to have a perfect Kata.

This Workshop is for those that could be struggling to pick up their next Kata, or for those that want to improve a Kata they already know, or for those curious to see other Kata and it is especially important for those that will be grading in the near future. Having a single Sensei take a small group through every single move in a detailed and instructed way will no doubt improve your Kata immensely.

The first part of the workshop will consist of all students doing the basic Kata together. The emphasis will be on techniques, balance and control. The second part of the workshop will see smaller groups each taken by a single Sensei. In these groups you will do your grading Kata in extreme detail, breaking down the techniques, hand positions, stances and movements in to small "chunks" to enable you to be the best at that Kata. You will also be taught the "Bunkai" of the Kata. If time permits you will get a go at the next Kata in your syllabus. Finally the last part of the workshop will see all the students getting back together in one group and having some fun in having a go at a brand new Kata from another style of Martial Arts! So new and different that not even the Sensei's have seen this Kata.
